Off road device begins

So I'm pretty keen to build a racecar (probably an R1 powered locost) but before I jump in the deep end I thought I'd take on something smaller to test my fabrication skills. I've started by doing some modelling on computer - this amazing racecar building site gave me the idea and motivation. Already the design in my head has changed from a side-by-side arrangement to having the motor and axle mounted on the rear suspension subframe.

So given I've already changed my mind on this design it's useful to post it up as I'm sure the final revision will have varied from it greatly:

SPAL cooling fan and shroud

Made from 1mm aluminium sheet.

This is my "poor man's sheet metal brake". Just a length of RHS bolted through the bench.

Seems to work well.

Electric water pump install

So I finally got the bits together to fit a Meziere WP337 remote electric water pump. The goal is to create enough space behind the radiator for a proper cooling fan and shroud and to increase the capacity of the cooling system.

I made a mounting bracket that lines up the pump inlet and rad outlet:

Front page

Managed to get on the front page of local transit rag mX for a gig on origin night:

Needless to say it was super bright on the rooftop of Limes Hotel so we all have our squint on.

Gig at The Edge tonight

Playing a show and recording a CD/DVD tonight at The Edge:

Goodbye gilmer belt kit

I have to get rid of the gilmer kit on the SBC 924 to make way for a Meziere electric water pump setup so I thought I'd take a quick video of the sound... I'll miss it:

Easter Rod Run

By absolute chance, I ran into the Narrandera Rod Run on my way down to Melbourne. Really wished I was driving my 924 with a SBC but alas I was in the green Volvo. Some great cars there, click the picture for the gallery.

Loopus @ X&Y Bar

Tomorrow night... 8pm on a Tues will be pretty dead but its a tryout gig really.

The green legend lives on

Another faithful Volvo 240 GL gets a new lease on life. This one is courtesy of Andrea and will be going to my cousin for hopefully years of ferrying to and from uni parties. Fullsick stereo in full effect.

Incidentally, it's oil filter was the tightest oil filter I've ever removed. It looked like it had been installed with crowsfeet. HAND TIGHT FOR OIL FILTERS PEOPLE, HANDS ONLY!

Level 31 on progress wars

This is so dumb. I played progress wars until I got to level 31. For some strange reason it felt satisfying, there was enough reward just to see the new mission title and hear the my co-workers incredulity at how simple the game is.... you just click to fill the bar... its here: http://progresswars.com/
